Veteran South African rapper Kwesta is celebrating a major career milestone as his acclaimed 2016 double album DaKAR II marks its 10th anniversary.
To commemorate the landmark project, Spotify and Sony Music Entertainment are hosting a special live celebration in Randburg, bringing the spotlight back to both the album and the rapper behind it.
Speaking with Spotify, Kwesta reflected on the project’s lasting impact and the bold risk it represented at the time.
“We were blessed to be at the same time, together, making that thing,” he shared, praising the team whose collaboration helped shape the album’s legacy.
Nearly a decade on, DaKAR II continues to resonate strongly. Streaming figures in 2025 have reportedly surpassed those recorded during its original release, highlighting its enduring influence within South African hip-hop.
Kwesta, who dropped his latest album, The Big Bro Theory, in May 2025, noted that the success of DaKAR II was no accident, it was driven by timing, teamwork, and a shared creative vision.
The anniversary event is set to unite fans, collaborators, and industry stakeholders in celebration of a body of work that still shapes South African music ten years after its debut.
